💚 Ruth’s Story – A Legacy of Compassion
Early Life
Ruth Kriaris was born in July 1966 on the South Side of Chicago. Raised by her mother, Kate, after her father abandoned the family when Ruth was just nine years old, she grew up surrounded by the strength and love of both her mother and grandmother. These women instilled in Ruth the values of resilience, kindness, and empathy that would guide her life.
Triumph Over Hardship
At the age of 14, Ruth survived a devastating accident that nearly claimed both her leg and her life. She spent over a year in the hospital recovering from her injuries. Despite the pain and challenges, Ruth’s courage and determination carried her forward.
Following her recovery, the family moved to Arizona to be closer to Ruth’s grandmother, beginning a new chapter filled with both trials and hope.
The Struggles She Faced
By 19, Ruth began her long battle with schizophrenia and manic depression. She bravely tried every treatment available, but the voices that tormented her could not be silenced. Even so, Ruth’s compassion for others never faded.
Ruth’s Gift of Compassion
Ruth had a rare and gentle gift with animals. Injured birds, strays, and even horses seemed to respond to her calming presence. Once, two wild birds landed on her shoulders as she walked into a store, leaving onlookers astonished.
Her generosity extended to people, too. Ruth often gave food, clothes, and kindness to the homeless — sometimes offering up her own meals. Her life was a quiet testament to unconditional love and service to others.
A Life Remembered
Ruth passed away on November 25, 2012, at the age of 46. She lived a life of courage, compassion, and unwavering love, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire everyone who knew her.
